We are in May 2007. After weeks of preparation, training of the language and the local habits, we are finally ready to leave. We first take our rented car to reach Paris, then take the flight direction Moscow, and Narita, Tokyo airport. I will never thank enough Laurent for this travel, not in another land, but in an other world…

Japan was for me a travel in another world, a total immersion in unknown, an adventure with disproportionate proportions, a "japan expo" in life size...

Adventure starts in Moscow where all is protected by Russian army. But this is nothing in comparison with the discovery of Tokyo because once we arrive Shinjuku it seems to be another "planet" much more advanced than our country, as if all were born here, from the more small details which can seem useless at first sight, to the greatest disproportionate madnesses we can imagine. Always higher, always further, such is the today Japan. And I don't speak about my discovery of the Japanese toilets on the 1st evening…! In any case Japanese people love to be in our movies, and the respect is essential here : To speak to them on the first time, you need to make it in Japanese!

Shinjuku: disproportionate district in which all seems possible with a wonderful contrast between tradition and modernism. In front of the pagodas and wood temples which welcome us by their red "toris", there are huge monuments, symbols of the highness of this country. Discovering all Shinjuku would be pure madness. Shinjuku is the "door" from Tokyo and never sleeps, and even late in the night, we understood that "Taka" bartender of the corner will be always there to receive us…

Shibuya: The mode District ! Dominated by the impressive tower of the "109", the biggest clothes shop of Shibuya, visiting the tower can take several hours, and several days if you are a girl! :-).
But most impressive here remains this crowd, unanimous, grouped, a such moving mass people who never stops!
Japanese people seems all similar at first sight, but they are all totally different and when you see cosplay style or business style from the traditonal "salary men", all here shows us that the fashion is sometimes something amazing that we French people could spend some years to understand how much it can be original!
I even bought a book with tens of existing styles and really you have to see it !!! (to find it, click on the image-------------------->

Odaiba. Lost small island on the other side of the "Rainbow Bridge" overhanging Tokyo bay, this islan seems to be turned towards innovation, playing and entertainment. You can see it within the store where it is always night (splendid) or within the huge Sega World with hundreds of video games. Odaiba can be surprising and you can even find in the center a copy of the statue of liberty from New York, Japanese people are so crazy : -)

Harajuku, on a rainy day. "Takeshita Dori", one of the main streets, is crossed by tens of umbrellas from Japanese men and Japanese women who won't be able this time to make their usual "cosplay show" not far from Yoyogi Park on the entrance bridge.

So have we decided to go towards the temple to be protected from rain and assist, in this beautiful rainy day to a wedding in a wonderful silence and respect, far from mordernism and cosplay, dressed with traditional kimonos, with so splendid colors… On evening, a fabulous live concert awaited us, with "visual kei" group, and which makes crazy hundreds of hysterical Japanese women around us, a pure happiness and a pure madness to see with our own eyes…...

Kawagoe, "Carrefour" adventure (France shop). This is well-known, each time Laurent and me leave for a travel, we have to see this french shop "Carrefour". Why? to discover the interesting differences between our two cultures and to learn there more on the lifestyle from the locals. So this is without hesitation that we travelled by the train, the subway, and the bus to reach this center of Kawagoe and its old city out of time and far from the tumult of the city…

The Fuji mount is in front of us and manage to make us forget sadness we had in leaving our japanese family, from the day before. We remain long hours surprised by its beauty then leave towards Fuji-Q-Higland to take good time in one of many park from Japan.

Akihabara or Akiba. Well. It will take me all internet to speak about this wonderful district that any manga fan or Japan fan has discover. A "Japan Expo" as a district size, even as huge as a city.
It gaves me more than 2 hours to entirely explore the first store of the street! Japanese people sees high and large, despite of lack of place their stores include tens floors including thousands of geishapons, figurines, accessories and mangas articles from any kind, a dream for neophytes, a madness for others.
From Final Fantasy to Naruto, I even found there some Zoids from my childhood and hundreds of Gundam robots !
Akihabara, cradle of electronics proves us all the Japan madness, entirely plunged in the manga that he has himself created, and here you can meet thousand "otakus" gathered together in "maid coffee" trying to forget the sadness of their real and shy life..
Akihabara, the myth, has to be seen and seen again without stopping !

Kamakura or my first really lonely adventure. This morning, I woke up very early to leave and discover an image which had surprised me before going to Japan, the Daibatsu from Kamakura, huge budha stone which resisted in front of all the storms and all the wars and which is drawn up proudly in front of the the sea and the rest of the world. For the first time I succeeded in making a trip in Japan alone and I was very proud to live this trip without no much problems. :-)

Kamakura or my first really lonely adventure. This morning, I woke up very early to leave and discover an image which had surprised me before going to Japan, the Daibatsu from Kamakura, huge budha stone which resisted in front of all the storms and all the wars and which is drawn up proudly in front of the the sea and the rest of the world. For the first time I succeeded in making a trip in Japan alone and I was very proud to live this trip without no much problems. :-)

Ueno. Pandas's district, or rather the district which contain the most known zoo of Japan. This zoo presents panda species in process of disappearance. Ueno also touched me by its very beautiful lake which is in the center of it, and with its neighbour streets as enlightened as in Shinjuku with several hundreds of neons.
Although very beautiful, I found the Panda very sad, and behind its jail, I was feeling his sadness to live here for life.
Live in Japan, even for a panda or a man must be definitely more difficult than to travel there…

Ueno. Pandas's district, or rather the district which contain the most known zoo of Japan. This zoo presents panda species in process of disappearance. Asakusa. Respect. I don't know what this word means in Japanese, but a thing is sure, the bell of the thunder imposes respect as soon as we arrived. And crossing it gives us feeling, as for a japanese red "tori" , to change world and to arrive in a world without time, rocked by the secular budhist incantations, and traditions practiced by Japanese people.
Respect, such is the word which describes for me Asakusa. But most incredible of all is that, despite the temples, the pagodas and all this "zen" attitude, Japanese have opened attraction park attraction at the center of this district, just to underline once more, the eternal contrast between tradition and modernity...

TokyoDisney is characterized by this party environment "good living" that  we can of course find in France also but it seems to be slightly different there. Japanese people break up themselves, love so much Mickey and keep always between them this respect we used to know. This morning was a great moment of discovering and recreation.

This is no less than several hundreds of fishes we have discoverd this day with some more or less unpleasant odors ;-) But the best part of the show remain this incredible auction, an organized madness which makes possible to sell fish with astronomical prices… wow !

It is in the misty night of a busy street, that I go down the few steps at the exit of the "Gaspanic" the club where I usually go with my t-shirt signed by all the girls of the party (an unforgettable memory). I say goodbye to Etsuko my japanese friend before I get into a taxi and get back at dawn because plane go in a few hours, and in my head only one word: "come back".
